DA2 reporting on the Continuum and CommunityWorks domains
On a multi-tenant Oracle Health domain you share the system with other organisations and do not administer it. That changes how reporting should be built.
The two domains
Continuum is Oracle Health’s multi-tenant domain for long-term care, behavioral health and rehabilitation. CommunityWorks is the shared, Oracle-hosted domain for community and rural hospitals. In both, many organisations run on one Millennium domain that Oracle hosts and maintains, and changes to it go through a stricter validation process than on a domain a health system runs for itself.
For reporting, that has three consequences.
What changes
You filter to yourself, every time
Security decides what a user can see, but a report that leans on it alone is fragile. Build every DA2 report with explicit organisation and facility filters, so a change in someone’s position never widens what the report returns.
You build within the domain, not on it
You cannot reshape a shared domain to suit one report, and custom changes take longer to reach it. DA2 is usually the most direct route to your own data, so it pays to build reports that are documented, prompted rather than hard-coded, and easy for the next person to maintain.
Extracts are your way out
Analysis that DA2 cannot comfortably do, such as years of trend or joins with finance data from elsewhere, belongs in a warehouse you control, fed by scheduled extracts. See getting DA2 data into a warehouse.
Behavioral health and post-acute specifics
- Long stays change the arithmetic. Census, length of stay and days-in-period behave differently when stays run for weeks or months: an encounter spans many reporting periods, so count patient-days in the period, not admissions.
- Levels of care change mid-stay. Programmes step patients between levels of care within one stay. Report on the level that applied on each day, not the one on the admission record.
- Some records carry stricter rules. Substance use disorder treatment records covered by 42 CFR Part 2 have disclosure rules beyond HIPAA. Decide early which reports and extracts may contain them, and keep them out of anything that does not need them.
- Therapy and scheduling drive revenue. In rehabilitation, therapy minutes, units and scheduling productivity are operational and financial measures at once, so the same extract often feeds both a daily operations dashboard and revenue cycle reporting.
